The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations (the ‘WEEE Regulations’) is now UK law. The legislation aims to make producers responsible for the treatment and recovery of waste electrical equipment. The regulations also mean that suppliers of equipment like high street shops and Internet retailers must allow consumers to return their waste equipment for processing free of charge.
The amount of WEEE thrown away is increasing by around 5% each year, making it the fastest growing waste stream in the UK.
· Much of the UK’s WEEE ends up in landfill, where the lead and other toxins it contains can cause soil and water contamination. This can have a harmful effect on natural habitat, wildlife and also human health.
· Many electrical items that are thrown away can be repaired or recycled. Recycling items helps to save our planet’s natural finite resources and also reduces the environmental and health risks associated with sending electrical goods to landfill.
Distributors of new Electric and Electronic Equipment (EEE) have a part to play in reducing the amount of WEEE going into landfill sites.
For example, if you purchase a new printer from us, we will accept your old printer and prevent it going into a landfill site by disposing of it safely. You must return your WEEE item to us within 28 days of purchasing your new item.
If you see the following symbol on new electrical goods, they should be disposed of separately from normal household waste so that they can be recycled:-
You can recycle your old electrical equipment which was similar to that which you have purchased from ETC. The product that you would like us to recycle must be ‘like for like’, for example if you purchased a monitor we will recycle your old monitor.

Upon receipt of your email, if you require us to collect your old item, we will email you a quotation for the costs of collection. However, in accordance with our obligations under the WEEE Regulations, we do not charge you any fee for the costs of the actual recycling.
Once the transportation has been agreed, we will contact you regarding the actual delivery or collection to our recycling facility.
